Dutch-American automaker Stellantis and US technology firm Microsoft have announced a five-year strategic collaboration to accelerate Stellantis' digital transformation through the co-development of advanced AI, cybersecurity, and engineering capabilities across its global operations spanning manufacturing, logistics, product development, and customer service.
Microsoft reported that joint teams will co-develop more than 100 AI initiatives across customer care, product development, and operations, including AI-powered product development and validation, predictive maintenance and testing, and faster deployment of new digital features and services.
As part of the collaboration, Stellantis will deploy an AI-driven global cyberdefense centre spanning its IT systems, connected vehicles, manufacturing sites, and digital products, enabling faster detection of cyberthreats and consistent protection of connected services and customer data across global operations.
Stellantis is also modernising its infrastructure using Microsoft Azure, targeting a 60% reduction in datacentre footprint by 2029, with cloud modernisation designed to power a more interconnected and scalable digital ecosystem supporting manufacturing and logistics resilience worldwide.
On workforce operations, Stellantis is equipping its global employees with enterprise-grade AI tools, with all staff currently having access to Copilot Chat and an initial rollout of 20,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licences supporting select roles, backed by a dedicated training programme.
Ned Curic, chief engineering and technology officer at Stellantis, said: "Through our collaboration with Microsoft, we are accelerating our AI momentum across the enterprise, giving our teams the tools to innovate faster and deliver the products, services and experiences customers expect from us."
Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft's Commercial Business, said the collaboration reflects a shared ambition to drive AI transformation responsibly and securely across the automotive value chain, delivering real value for millions of drivers worldwide.
