IDA Ireland, the Irish government's inward investment agency, has appointed Kanishk Kumar as country director for India, strengthening its on-the-ground operational capability in one of its key target markets as part of its 2025–2029 growth strategy.

HRKatha reported that Kumar brings nearly 20 years of experience advising businesses on international expansion and investment, with his role focused on building stronger partnerships with Indian companies across technology, semiconductors, life sciences, medtech, and fintech sectors.

The appointment is designed to create new pathways for Indian firms seeking European market entry, while also supporting job creation and innovation in Ireland.

IDA Ireland works with over 1,800 client companies worldwide, supports more than 300,000 jobs, and contributes over €40 billion annually to the Irish economy. In the past decade, employment in IDA-supported firms has grown by 55%, while spending on Irish goods and services has risen sharply.

IDA's updated strategy identifies digitalisation, AI, sustainability, and health as key drivers of future growth, positioning Ireland as a gateway to the European Union on the basis of regulatory stability, a skilled talent base, and advanced infrastructure, factors cited as closely aligned with the international expansion priorities of Indian businesses.

The appointment reflects the deepening importance of India–Ireland economic relations, built on decades of cooperation, and signals IDA's intent to accelerate investment flows between both countries across next-generation industries.

Michael Lohan, chief executive of IDA Ireland, has previously stated that AI is a key growth driver in IDA's Adapt Intelligently strategy, with Indian-headquartered technology firms representing a significant and growing source of inbound investment for Ireland.
