First Focus has acquired Optimus Systems to strengthen its operational footprint across New Zealand and accelerate its delivery of managed AI and IT services for small and medium-sized businesses. For operational excellence stakeholders, the transaction reflects a broader industry shift towards consolidation and platform-led service models designed to improve efficiency, standardisation and scalable delivery.

Reseller News reported that the acquisition brings together First Focus’ scale, AI capability and managed services expertise with Optimus Systems’ established client base and local delivery presence across Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Optimus operates across managed IT, cyber security, cloud services and compliance, and holds ISO 27001:2022 certification, reinforcing its structured approach to information security management.

The combined business will focus on delivering improved operational outcomes for SMEs by integrating automation, AI tools and cyber security services into managed service frameworks. The strategy reflects increasing demand from procurement and IT decision-makers for partners capable of delivering measurable productivity gains and improved system resilience.

First Focus chief executive Ross Sardi said New Zealand is a strategic growth market and that the acquisition supports its ambition to become a leading managed AI and IT services provider in the region. He added that the company’s strategy is centred on combining technical capability with strong local delivery teams to support client outcomes at scale.

Optimus founder Marek Drummond said the acquisition ensures clients gain access to broader capability and a more scalable operational platform, while maintaining continuity of service through existing teams. He noted that increasing demand for AI, automation and cyber security requires greater operational depth and structured service delivery models.
