Hastings Hotels, a leading luxury hotel group in Belfast, Northern Ireland, has achieved Safe to Trade approval, a voluntary accreditation recognising best practice in food safety.

The recognition places the group among a limited number of establishments in Northern Ireland to meet the higher standard, reinforcing operational excellence across its six properties.

Safe to Trade involves annual independent audits covering not only food hygiene but also allergen management, ingredient transparency, front-of-house cleanliness, and real-time accountability. It extends beyond standard regulatory compliance, providing an additional layer of assurance to guests and stakeholders.

“We’re proud to have achieved Safe to Trade accreditation across our six properties. As a voluntary, third-party assurance programme, it provides a robust and transparent framework that independently verifies the standards we already work to,” said Raymond Duncan, compliance, operations & procurement manager of Hastings Hotels.

“It goes beyond the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme by focusing on areas that matter most to our customers, including allergen safety, clear and accurate menu information, clean environments and real-time accountability. Ultimately, it supports higher standards across the industry and gives customers greater confidence when making dining choices.”

Hastings Hotels’ portfolio includes seven hotels across Northern Ireland, such as the five-star Culloden Estate and Spa, the world-famous Europa Hotel, the Stormont Hotel, Slieve Donard Resort and Spa, Everglades Hotel, and the historic Ballygally Castle. The accreditation reinforces the group’s commitment to operational excellence, ensuring consistency and reliability in hygiene practices while strengthening customer trust.

By standardising procedures and subjecting operations to rigorous independent assessment, Hastings Hotels demonstrates a scalable approach to operational excellence that other hospitality organisations can model.
