AtkinsRéalis has signed a definitive agreement to acquire TOBIN, expanding its operational footprint in Ireland and strengthening its capacity to deliver multidisciplinary engineering and project management services. For operational excellence stakeholders, the transaction reflects continued consolidation in the engineering services sector as firms scale capabilities to improve delivery efficiency across complex infrastructure programmes.

Smart Water Magazine reported that the acquisition will see TOBIN integrated into AtkinsRéalis’ UK and Ireland business, increasing its workforce in Ireland to more than 700 employees. TOBIN, headquartered in Galway, operates across five Irish offices and provides engineering, technical and programme management services across building, water and transport sectors.

The combined organisation will focus on enhancing delivery performance across infrastructure pipelines, with particular emphasis on programme coordination, technical integration and end-to-end project execution. TOBIN’s specialism in environmental and planning services is expected to complement AtkinsRéalis’ existing infrastructure portfolio, particularly in large-scale public and regulated asset programmes.

Ian L. Edwards, president and chief executive officer of AtkinsRéalis, said the acquisition builds on the company’s 25-year presence in Ireland and strengthens its ability to support infrastructure, energy and sustainable development projects. He noted Ireland’s pipeline of long-term infrastructure investment as a key strategic driver.

Ciaran McGovern, managing director of TOBIN, said joining AtkinsRéalis marks a new phase for the business and highlighted shared priorities around technical excellence, collaboration and long-term client delivery performance.

AtkinsRéalis already operates across major Irish infrastructure programmes, including rail projects such as DART+ West and DART+ South West, as well as energy transmission projects with EirGrid and water infrastructure delivery with Uisce Éireann.

The acquisition is expected to support more integrated delivery models across infrastructure programmes, with a focus on improving coordination, reducing delivery fragmentation and enhancing operational performance across multi-stakeholder environments.
