Astellas is investing €129 million in its Irish operations, adding to its ongoing €330 million facility build in Tralee. This move creates 120 new jobs in Tralee, with over 500 workers involved in construction. The new drug product fill facility will expand in-house production, strengthen supply chains, and integrate high environmental standards with digital-first operations.
For operations leaders, this signals how global pharmaceutical firms are prioritising future-ready facilities that combine sustainability, advanced manufacturing, and talent development. Astellas plans targeted upskilling across digital literacy, sustainability, and leadership, alongside R&D expansion for antibody-drug conjugates and monoclonal antibodies. Energy reduction is central, with wind turbines, woodchip boilers, and solar panels among the upgrades across sites.
This investment cements Ireland’s status as a strategic hub for pharma manufacturing, while underscoring the operational imperative of low-waste, high-efficiency systems to stay globally competitive.
