This award recognises organisations that have demonstrated outstanding operational excellence within engineering functions over the past 12 months. It celebrates companies that have successfully improved engineering performance, efficiency, reliability, and innovation to support operational success and business growth. The category is open to organisations operating across engineering-led industries, including manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, energy, logistics, utilities, and engineering services. Entrants should demonstrate how engineering teams, systems, and processes have been optimised to deliver measurable operational improvements. Entry is by a 5-page A4 PDF submission; the judges will be looking for clear information supported by evidence that demonstrates how operational excellence has been achieved, paying particular attention to the criteria listed below.

  • Organisation Background: Please provide a brief description of the organisation including when it was established, number of employees, key engineering functions, services provided, and any relevant industry achievements, certifications, or accreditations.
  • Operational Efficiency: Outline how engineering processes, systems, or infrastructure have been optimised to improve efficiency. This may include reducing downtime, improving asset reliability, streamlining engineering workflows, improving maintenance strategies, or increasing overall operational productivity.
  • Innovation: Please include details of any innovative engineering approaches, technologies, or methodologies that have been implemented. This may include the use of digital engineering tools, automation, predictive maintenance, data-driven decision-making, or the application of recognised frameworks such as Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement programmes.
  • Quality and Performance Standards: Describe how engineering excellence has contributed to maintaining or improving operational quality, safety, and performance standards. Include any measurable improvements in reliability, compliance, system performance, or engineering outputs.
  • Cost and Resource Efficiency: Detail how operational excellence within engineering has contributed to improved cost management. This may include reducing operational costs, improving asset utilisation, reducing waste, improving maintenance planning, or delivering efficiencies in engineering resources.
  • Supporting Facts & Statements: Please include any additional evidence that supports your submission, such as performance data, project outcomes, industry recognition, case studies, or testimonials that demonstrate the impact of your engineering operational excellence.
